Lagos state police command said it has arrested one hundred and eighty-five 185 suspected gangsters in ikorodu as it recovers eight locally made pistols, saying the command is still intensifying onslaughts against those cultists and gangsters.
Explaining further, in a statement, the police public relation officer Dsp Bala Elkana said two weeks back, the Lagos state commissioner of police, CP Hakeem Odumosu ordered the deployment of special forces from the command’s tactical units to ikorodu to tackle the menace of cultism and gang violence.
He said this was how operatives of the special tactical squad took the battle to the cultist den at ikorodu, ipakodo, igbogbo, ibeshe, Sagamu road and Agbowa.
Elkana said the intelligent driven approach used to target top leaders and members of various cult and gangs which include rival cult groups essentially those creating unrest in ikorodu area that has in last few weeks engaged themselves in a supremacy battle with resultant deaths from both sides.
The spokesman said men of the task force were given clear instructions to reclaim and dominate the public spaces and ensure that no cult group or gangs operate in any part of Lagos state.
He said 185 notorious cultists and recovered eight locally made pistols and other dangerous weapon from them.
“Suspects arrested had confessed to belonging to Eiye, Aiye, kk, Buccaneers, Viking confraternities”.
Elkana said among the suspects was one Gbadamosi Mohammed, a 30-year-old suspected to be the killer of one madariola Sunday which took place at ibeshe on the 21-05-2020.
Also arrested are onibudo Afeex, Habeeb isa, Felix igwoke, Taiwo iyanu and Femi Taiwo, as they were arrested in an uncompleted building holding cult meeting.
Elkana said one of their gang leaders identified as Adeoye Daya, a 25-year-old hitman was arrested at ikorodu garage with one locally made short gun and rounds of live cartridges; he added that another rival cult gang leader belonging to another faction known as Eiye confraternity known as Tosin shodeinde was equally arrested with a locally made short gun.
He said the operation will be sustained in all part of the state until those criminals gangs are totally defeated adding that the suspects will be charged to court.
