Area P” Police command headquarters with it supervising Divisions that Consist of Ayobo Police Division, Ipaja, Mairan Division, Alagbado Police Division and Oke-odo Police Division had its inauguration of members into local government, community policing Advisory committee.
The inauguration which took place at its Area P Command Headquarters today had few members of the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) in attendance for membership inauguration which is not without the adherence to physical distancing rules with the understanding of ensuring safety measures against the Coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Area Commander, Acp Olugbenga Adepoju told the gathering that the event was a deliberate attempt following concerns over the recent upsurge in crimes and other social disorder.
He said the current police management headed by its inspector general, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Adamu had considered the urgent need to holistically implement community policing.
Acp Adepoju said policing strategy connotes that police can only effectively and efficiently resolve crime, fear of crime, social disorder and neighbourhood security decay if they work in partnership with the community.
The three committees that were inaugurated include Area command community policing Advisory committee, local government Advisory committee and Divisional community policing committee are expected to be saddle with act as the custodian of community policing in the area command and deal with community policing policy matter while reporting to the commissioner of police.
He said it will help identify security threat in the communities and enable the local police evolve appropriate approaches towards addressing them.
The chairman of ipaja local Development Area, Hon Adisa Yusuf on his part believes the idea remains very strategic and indeed a welcome development.
Security remains number one priority and if any leader must succeed, there is the need for such a leader to take security very important.
He said the local government shall embrace those strategic approaches and work with the advisory committees and other structures within his jurisdiction local the government in other to secure live and properties of the people.
The chairman of the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) at Area P’ police command thanked the participants and appreciate the inspector general of police, IGP Mohammed Adamu for creating policing strategy at local government with better synergy with the inhabitants saying the idea will certainly help in no small measures.
Ipaja Divisional police officer, Csp Tokunbo Abaniwonda who indeed happened to be the moderator of the event appreciate all participants while assuring members of the public of police total support at all times.
