The Lagos state police command has confirmed the arrest of an inspector who was accused in a viral video on social media to have allegedly collected the sum of forty thousand from the owner of a vehicle impounded for violating the restriction of movement order in Lagos.
The inspector identified as Tolaju martin was said to have allegedly collected money worth forty thousand from a certain man who is said to be a vehicle owner and was arrested over going against restriction order declared by federal government against the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, he, however, went on social media to vent his anger against the action of the police inspector.
The police public relation Officer Dsp Bala Elkana said after analyzing the video, the culprit was identified and arrested, adding that his name was revealed to be inspector Tolaju Martin attached to Ago palace station as station officer.
He said the complaint has also been identified, money extorted handed over to him by the commissioner of police.
The spokesman said the commissioner of police, Lagos state Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the deputy commissioner of police in charge of criminal investigation to carry out an in-depth investigation into the activities of Ago police station as a whole.
The inspector arrested is handed over to provost marshal for orderly room trials, adding that the commissioner of police has reaffirmed his stance against corrupt practice and impunity as members of the public will be updated on the outcome of the investigation.
