The recent pandemonium that erupted in some parts of Lagos as a result of the lockdown handed down by president mohammadu Buhari which many believed was more of security challenges in some inhabitants have rather taken another toll as the Lagos state police command said the development was a result of the false alarm raised that actually caused the panic by unscrupulous elements and has, therefore, warn those in that habit to desist or face the wrath of the law.
The police, through its Public Relation officer, Dsp Bala Elkana handed down this warning in a statement it made available to journalists in the early hours of yesterday.
Elkana said the command had received several calls and messages mostly from residents of igando, Idimu and ikotun among others, that one million boys are planning to attack their communities.
He said the command responded with a massive deployment of police patrol teams to beef up the security situation of the areas mentioned and other parts of the state.
Police Special Forces are strategically positioned, patrolling the length and breadth of the state.
Recall that the inspector general of police IGP Mohammed Adamu has graciously deployed a seasoned crime fighter, DIG Peter ogunyanwo to Lagos and Ogun in order to have an on the spot assessment of the situation in those locations as well as to coordinate the ongoing onslaught launched against criminal elements.
His word:'' the inspector general of police has equally deployed special forces to support the tactical units initially deployed by the commissioner of police, Lagos State, cp Hakeem Odumosu.
The spokesman said the Special Forces were last night deployed to igando, Agege, Dopemu, Abattoir, Mangoro, Alakuko and other parts of the state to provide round the clock patrols.
He said the team have clear instruction to deal decisively with criminals elements operating under whatever guise, in accordance with the law.
The command will not relent on its efforts in protecting the lives and properties of the citizens and residents.
Members of the public particularly residents of the communities mentioned earlier are enjoined to remain calm and support the ongoing efforts of the police in ridding the state of criminal elements.
Elkana said the command with the support of the good people of Lagos state, has dealt a big blow to this criminal gang and several other gangs over the last four months as over eight hundred members of the gangs and their leaders were arrested and charged to court adding that they are still in correctional centres.
No criminal gang is capable of unleashing terror on our communities, we are far bigger and stronger than criminals elements.
The spokesman said rumour-mongering and spreading fake news post pose a lot of dangers to our collective efforts in crime prevention and control.
"Before pressing the forward button or putting a call across, take some time to verify the source of the information, avoid being a carrier or victim of spreading fake news".
Together we will continue to keep Lagos safe
