Men of Nigeria custom specifically Ogun Area 1 Command today intercepted Nine Hundred and Forty-Four (944) cartons of frozen poultry products.
A statement coming from the command’s Public Relation officer Abdullahi Maiwada said the interception was after following up with a credible intelligence which eventually led its operatives to be able to apprehend nine vehicles fully loaded with frozen poultry products suspected to have been smuggled into Nigeria by daredevil smugglers.
“This said item was apprehended at itaege, idiroko axis within the boundary of Ogun and the neighbouring country and was brought to sentry, a location within idiroko axis for proper documentation and destruction in tandem with extant laws and guidelines”.
Maiwada said the exercise was successfully executed at the instance of custom Area comptroller, Michael Agbara and representatives of the other relevant sister agencies as a pointer to cardinal responsibilities of custom to protect the society against the illicit action of smugglers.
The spokesman said the development is indeed a demonstration of the gigantic contribution of Ogun custom Area command toward making the theme of 2020 international custom day chosen by world custom organisation, with the understanding of fostering sustainability for people, prosperity and the planet a reality.
“The Custom Area comptroller is appealing to the general public to embrace legitimate means of livelihood and to avoid smuggling of such hazardous items that is practically inimical to attaining the vision of having a healthy and economically viable society”
