Operatives of Lagos state police command have arrested twenty-one members of two cult rivals that has been tormenting the inhabitants of ikorodu specifically at isikalu palace and solomade area over supremacy battle where in addition, it was able to arrest one of the notorious cultist terrorizing ikorodu environment
In a statement made available to urban express news online through the Lagos state police public relation officer, Dsp Bala Elkana said; at about 10pm on 6th of June 2019, police received a distress call that some cult members from two rivalry groups engaged themselves in supremacy battles at isikalu and solomade, a location situated at ikorodu
"The commands’ anti-cultism unit and patrols from ikorodu were promptly drafted to the scene"
He said the leader of the gang who has been on the wanted list of the command with name Yusuf omidele popularly known as General was arrested and twenty-one others cultist
Elkana said the suspects popularly known as “general” has been charged to court on several occasions and sentenced to prison adding that until recently, he was convicted and had his sentence completed in 2014 and have become an elder-in-council in Eiye confraternity
The Lagos police spokesman said the most wanted suspect known as “general” was said to have led his gang in a reappraisal attack on a member of Aye confraternity, whom they alleged to have killed the wife of one of their leaders some week ago
Elkana said the suspects arrested belong to both Aye and Eye confraternity and have all confessed to belonging to secret societies
“Two cultists died from the cult clash and six others were injured”
Elkana said the massive onslaught launched by the command on cultist and gangsters is continuous operation with the understanding of arresting other fleeing members of the gangs
Items recovered includes; four locally made pistol, eight matches and three daggers
He said suspects will be charge to court.
Meanwhile, the statement put further that in proffering a lasting solution to youth engagement and involvements of teenagers and underage persons in cult activities, the Lagos state commissioner of police, cp zubairu Muazu has today met with traditional rulers, religious leaders elders statesmen, parents and youths and other stakeholders at ikorodu
"All stakeholders have agreed to join the police in the fight against the menace of cultism and gangsterism"
