202 Suspected Cultist Charged, 54 weapons Recovered And 105 Arrested On Cases of Robbery so far- Police

The Lagos state police command has given a breakdown on efforts of the command so far in curbing crimes and stemming the tide against cultism and other criminal activities across the state. 

Briefing journalists on the latest introduction it put in place that expected to reclaim the destiny of some of the youths that have degenerated into doing what is said to be a menace to the state specifically known as cult activities and other related crimes,  the  Lagos state commissioner of police, Muazu zubairu said the menace known cultism remain evil and it is a crime against the collective will of the people.

CP Zubairu  said when cultism thrives, surely other heinous crimes like murder, and rape robbery kidnapping will thrive too.

He said defeating cultism will, therefore, mean defeating all heinous crimes in the state adding that virtually every crime recorded in the state have to link to cultism.

The  commissioner of police said since assumption of office on February 2019, the command has arrested 202 notorious cult members charged 54 assorted cases at different stages of prosecution while the command also arrested 105 suspects that include 7 cases of kidnapping.

“The command successfully foiled 93 armed robbery attempts through prompt responses to distress calls from members of the public at different locations in the state"

Cp zubairu Muazu said his understanding remains that tackling cultism requires a holistic approach adding that the command intends to adopt community policing approach

“We will soon embark on sensitization programs in collaboration with police community relations committee, student leaders, town hall meetings essentially in areas most affected by cult activities”

Explaining further, cp zubairu said the meeting intends to discuss extensively the root causes of cultism and gangsterism and possible solutions.

He said various cult groups and gangs identified within the state include Aiye Eiye confraternities, one million boys at Ajegunle, Fadeyi boys at Fadeyi Area Akala boys at Mushin, Nokia groups at Surulere area,  shitta boys at Bariga, oworonshoki, shomolu, palm grove areas and Awawa boys at Dopemu, Agege Ogba and Iyana ipaja.

The statement put further that the police have observed the activities of those cult groups and gangs with credible intelligence gathered

The statement read it part “That we have reviewed our strategies and have initiated far-reaching approach to totally eradicate the menace”

"We have equally rejigged our anti-cultism unit to effectively combat those miscreants who have chosen the wrong path of life"

He said the command intend to take the fight to their doorsteps, adding that they are all out for them

We intend to fish them out, isolate them and bring them to justice and that the command is battle ready.
