Operatives of Lagos state police command has arrested six suspects with a large quantity of poisonous cow skin popularly known as ponmo.
The whole development started after acting on strength of information from a credible source that a truck loaded with cow skin suspected to be poisonous were heaped on a warehouse situated at 9 college road along igando metropolis.
A statement made available through the Lagos state police public relation officer Dsp Elkana said; a team of police officers led by igando Divisional police officer mobilized to the scene and discovered huge pillage and pyramid of poisonous ponmo and chemicals used for its preservation.
Elkana said one Truck with registration number AKD-375-XB which was used in conveying the goods was impounded.
“Officials of Lagos state ministry of health were contacted and after due examination, the cow skin was confirmed to be poisonous and not fit for human consumption”
The Ppro said suspects arrested include one Adelowo Yinka with age (50), resides at ifelodun street Agric road along Egan,whilst olawumi Onabanjo, age 40 both of which happened to be their truck driver reside at olunshabiko street itere in ogun state, while the remaining suspects includes one Omowumi wasiu age 43, resides at new site Muwo Badagry, Adeshokan Taiwo had no fixed address, while iyabo oluwa with age 38, resides at ifelodun street Ijegun at ikotun and Taye kazeem with age 40 had his residence situated at Disu street off ijagemo road Ijegun ikotun
The statement put further that the state commissioner of police cp zubairu Muazu is assuring Lagos residence that the police command is determined to continually protect life and property of the people as well as the preservation of public health and safety as enshrined in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.
Elkana said investigation is ongoing to ascertain the source and destination of those poisonous food items adding that those suspects will be charged to court
