“INEC has four years to prepare for the exercise and had repeatedly assured Nigerians that it was ready to conduct the elections”
These were the submissions of the Guilds of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) condemning the action of the independent National Electoral Commission’s Decision postponing the 2019 election.
In a statement signed by the body’s National Secretary, Mr Femi Adeoya on behalf of the professional body said postponements of election a few hours before its commencement portrays INEC in a bad light.
The Guild wondered why after having about four years lifeline for preparations, coming with repeated assurance to Nigerians that it was ready to conduct an election, it should not now come out to preach another thing to Nigerians, adding that such action is not for good of the country.
“The postponements apart from its huge cost to foreigners has also made Nigeria a laughing stock in the comity of nations taking into consideration the number of local and international observers who were on ground to monitor the election”
“We call on all Nigerians to always be ready to exercise their civil right essentially as the postponement about a week ahead without intimidation”
Adeoya advised all its members across the globe to once again maintain a high level of professionalism in reporting the coming election and avoid publication of fake news and unverified election results.
