The political fire-work that just played out in Lagos state guberatorial primary election of the All Progressive Congress ended abruptly after various interest files in, making even the perceive god father of Lagos politics, Bola Tinubu throws his weight behind governor Ambode’s rival Babajide Sanwo-olu who eventually clinched the ticket as the governorship candidate of the party, even though speculations have it that there are many intrigues that played out making the incumbent throwing in the towel, but that action indeed signifies historical explanation of becoming the governor in this republic to be denied a ticket from his party
Although, there are the issue of irregularities, But however, its generally accepted that the development was an implication that arouse the interest of party members against each other over whose interest they must abide during the primaries that led to the exit of the incumbent governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, paving way for Babajide Sanwo-olu.
Urban express news had once reported the much violence that marred the process majorly in some locations where voting was taking place, and where a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who does not want his name on print told our correspondent that there are many party members that want a free and fair primary in other that they have clear winner, but that did not see the light of the day where it claimed that what was used to oust those that are having different interest was open ballot system and the concept of option A4 that allow for queuing behind candidates of one’s choice and that indeed can never breed good outcome because of so many implications that may arise afterwards, the source claimed.
This development however may be unconnected to the reason the chairman of the panel sent by the national leadership of the party, Mr. Clement Ebri ruled intitially that the primary conducted on Tuesday was illegal. He had said that fresh primary would be conducted throughout the state.
However, early yesterday, Mr. Ebri, a former governor of Cross River State, in a volte face signed the results that the chairman of the state chapter of the party, Alhaji Tunde Balogun had earlier presented to him. Urban express news online gathered that unprecedented pressure was brought on Ebri including the both sides. It was gathered that Ebri collapsed after it became clear that irrespective of his effort, the national leadership would overrule him, and with it, expose him to ridicule. “The chairman was brought to the point of tears because of the pressure,”

Another source who crave anonymity had told urban express news online that He Ambode did not want the matter to get to that level was the reasoson he accepted the defeat to reduce the tension in the state and to also stop any unforeseen circumstances that may led to other form of reaction from party hierarchies coming with this understanding of allowing peace to reign and to also complete all his projects, the source said.
Meanwhile Governor Ambode in a live television broadcast conceding defeat yesterday said it was time to draw the curtain on the issue that had seemingly paralyzed the state as he promised to make arrangements for a smooth transition.
He said: ”Fellow Lagosians, the last few days have witnessed intense political activities that have gripped the attention of the nation and created palpable tension in the polity.
I strongly believe that the time has now come for the State to move forward in order that the gains of the last three and half years are not lost. Dear Lagosians, APC is a great party and the interests of our beloved state must always supersede that of any person or group.
It is in this regard that I wholeheartedly congratulate the winner of the Lagos State APC Primaries, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and urge all Lagosians to immediately support our party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 elections and work for the success of our dear party.
‘As governor, I will do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition in the remaining period of this administration and ultimately to the new Governor, come May 2019.
I, therefore, appeal to all our party members that we remain one family and unite behind the candidate of the party, so that we can continue to move this state forward.
