The people’s Democratic Party (PDP) is accusing President Mohammadu Buhari-led All Progressive Party over its decision on direct primaries as a ploy rig 2019 elections.
The party said it was aware that the Presidency forced the direct primaries option on APC members to eliminate delegates’ participation and pave way for the allocation of millions of “conjured” votes, which it intend to use to realize its ambition.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, the PDP noted that rigging was the sole reason even governors elected on the platform of the ruling party, have now settled with the direct primaries model.
“Having eliminated contest within the APC, the Presidency, which is now apprehensive of apathy against President Buhari due to his increasing unpopularity, plots to import non-members of the party to satiate the venue of the presidential primaries to create an impression of overwhelming popularity for Mr. President and use that to validate the fictitious votes they are conjuring for the Presidential election.
“The PDP is reliably informed that this rigging plot is the reason, APC aspirants to other positions, especially, APC state governors, is demanding for direct primaries instead of the indirect primaries earlier approved for them by their party.
“This rigging plot is the major reason behind the secret creation of 30,000 illegal polling units by INEC (The commission has since dismissed this allegation), in compromised areas, which we earlier alerted the nation about.
This is in addition to plots by INEC to frustrate genuine voters from accessing their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), so as to allow the cards in the hands of compromised INEC officials, who will attempt to use such to allocate fake figures for APC,” the statement read in part; It called on the commission to publish on its website, the number of accredited voters in all polling centers before the commencement of voting in all elections, particularly the Presidential election.
Meanwhile sources had told urban express news correspondent that some governors under the platform of the governing All Progressive Congress and some of its Aspirants are on a dagger down with Adams Oshiomhole over last week’s decision of the Governing All Progressive Congress (APC) to adopt Direct primaries for its forthcoming congresses and presidential primaries which is said to widened the gulf between state governors and other chapters of the party on one side and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee, NWC on the other.
Despite warnings by the party to heavily reprimand those who go contrary to its resolution, the governors, allegedly acting through their state chairmen, met yesterday in Abuja and agreed to distance themselves from the earlier decision of the National Executive Committee, NEC.
This is coming despite President Mohammadu Buhari’s intervention. At least 30 of the state chairmen were locked in a meeting at a hotel in Abuja where they were among others proposing a vote of no confidence on the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee, NWC.
The president’s rebuke of those orchestrating the destabilization plot came as the APC earlier, yesterday, warned those being used to stoke the crisis to step off, warning that stern disciplinary action would be taken against them.
The chairmen and a few national officers outside the NWC, Urban express news online gathered that being egged on by a few governors with a two-term southern governor championing the move.
The meeting of the chairmen earlier scheduled to hold at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja was subsequently moved to Barcelona Hotel, in the heart of the federal capital.
The principal aim of the meeting was to call for the dissolution of the NWC. The southern governor, according to sources, it is mobilizing to truncate the party’s decision on the use of direct primary as it could jeopardize his succession agenda and also truncate the governor’s own plan of proceeding to the Senate. Members of the National Executive Committee, NEC who do not belong to the NWC, it was gathered, were also mobilized to canvass for the dissolution of the Oshiomhole-led NWC.
